PhD Scholarships for post graduate education at Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen

Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen (LIFE) is offering a number of PhD Scholarships commencing during the period of 1 July 2008 and 1 December 2008. The scholarships are divided into the following five areas.

Veterinary and Animal Sciences
Soil Sciences
Food Science and Human Nutrition
Forest and Landscape
Agricultural Economics and Natural Sciences

PhD students enrolled within subject areas in relation to one of the 15 Research Schools at LIFE must expect to be affiliated with the relevant Research School. Information about the Research Schools is available on www.life.ku.dk.

When assessing the applications, emphasis will be put on the candidate´s:
Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD content as well as the likelihood to complete the PhD project requested by the applicant
First-author publications
Other professional activities
Relevant working experience, and
Undergraduate grades

As part of LIFE´s performance contract with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation LIFE´s management has decided to award a minimum of eight scolarships to applicants holding a DVM degree.
Pay and terms of employment:
The scholarships´ salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Federation of Graduate Employees Union). Scholarships under the 4+4 scheme are in agreement with the SU-Scholarship Regulations until the qualifying examination to continue on with the PhD study has been approved. Thereafter, these types of scholarships will become scholarships with salaries.

Application assessment:
Furthermore, the Scholarship is in accordance with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation?s Directive. This is in regards to the employment of teachers and scientific employees at higher education institutions with university status under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. In accordance to this, a specialist assessment committee will be appointed to determine which individual applicants are qualified to complete the particular PhD project. The applications evaluated by the committee as qualified for PhD Study Programme will be further considered by LIFE.

PhD plan/application for admission to the PhD study programme:
The applicant should design a PhD plan in collaboration with the prospective supervisor. The PhD plan must consist of a description of the project, plus other formalities (e.g. timetable, courses, budget, etc.). The applicants should immediately contact a prospective supervisor and/or the Department´s PhD coordinator to further work out the course of the study. The application:
The applicant must enclose documentation of academic degrees, curriculum vitae, study plan, a list of enclosures as well as other material the applicant wishes to have included in the assessment. Two copies of the material should be submitted.
