Free Education for PhD Studentship at University of Abertay Dundee

Electro-optic and Terahertz Techniques for Accelerator Beam Bunch Profile Diagnostics
£13,600 (stipend)

A graduate student with an upper second or first class degree in the physics is sought for this STFC-funded CASE studentship. The person appointed to this studentship will join the Abertay-Dundee-Daresbury group, an internationally leading team working in electron bunch-length diagnostics based on the electro-optic detection of terahertz radiation. The student will be based essentially full-time in the Accelerator Science and Technology Centre (www.astec.ac.uk) at Daresbury Laboratory, with access to state-of-the-art laser and electron accelerator facilities. In addition to the work at Daresbury, the project will involve collaboration with physicists at the FELIX facility in the Netherlands (http://www.rijnh.nl) and at DESY in Hamburg (http://www.desy.de/html/home/index_eng.html).

The work to be carried out under the CASE studentship will play an important role in ensuring the successful operation of future light sources that have applications in pharmaceutical, biological, and material research.
