Free Education for PhD Students Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks at Netherland

The Computer Science department of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science is one of the largest academic institutions in computer science in the Netherlands, with 220 faculty members and 1200 students. It provides courses in Technical Computer Science, Business Information Technology, and Telematics. In addition, the department contributes to computer science education within other academic programmes. The research of the department is part of the multidisciplinary research institute Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT).

The Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT) is a multidisciplinary research institute of the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands. CTIT coordinates the research activities in all the areas relevant to the development, the introduction and the usage of information technology systems.

In the Pervasive Systems group of the Computer Science Department we are looking for

- 3 PhD Students Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks
- 1 Embedded Software Engineer

The Pervasive Systems group at the University of Twente is one of the leading research groups in Europe in the field of wireless sensor networks. We place emphasis on both the theoretical and practical aspects thus ensuring that our research has a direct impact on society.

Project description:

The project aims to create an open, business driven architecture that fundamentally addresses the scalability problems for a large number of globally distributed wireless sensor and actuator networks (WS&A) devices. It provides necessary network and information management services to enable reliable and accurate context information retrieval and interaction with the physical environment. By adding mechanisms for accounting, security, privacy and trust it enables an open and secure market space for context-awareness and real world interaction.

Members of the project will be required to develop a dynamic and reconfigurable framework for wireless sensor networks that is able to adapt autonomously to the requirements of the environment. Special attention will be paid to the design of energy-efficient and scalable protocols for reliable software distribution and using higher-level abstractions for dynamic task allocation.
